EXCERPTS FROM THE PRIMATE’S HOMILY

TITLE: DIVINE HELP
TEXT: ISA. 41:10

The primate in his sermon remarked that the current state of things in the country and, specifically, Ogbaru area, especially at the sight of the flood with the attendant devastations so far is one that could make one ask some faith-threatening questions, which could even make some, especially the weak in faith, walk the path of the unjust to find out the reasons for the situation they find themselves in, through some fetish consultations and divinations.

His Grace, therefore, brought the word of God to the people, stating emphatically that the Lord has asked him to tell His people that they should not fear.

There may have been loss of properties, lives, means of livelihood which, as a result, instilled fear of the unknown and serious concerns in the hearts of many. The Lord keeps saying, ‘Fear not, I am with you, I will strengthen you, and I will uphold you with my right hand of righteousness’.

In his words, “Fear not, the good people of Ogbaru, the Lord is coming through for you”.

He further called on the all to walk by faith and not by sight. What is before us might be heavy and disheartening when weighed in our minds but faith in God enthrones God over the situation. Faith in God makes our troubles and concerns insignificant and spurs Him to bear on them mightily – culminating in miracles.

He stated, that the enemy of faith is fear while fear disappears once faith steps in. Both cannot work together.

What does this faith occasion?
It is absolute trust and dependence on God. It is a knowing and an unwavering belief that with God all things are possible. It is totally committing to God all our concerns with the assurance that he is in charge and will only cause thing to work in our favour – the good, the bad or the ugly.

Divine help is an assurance of His care arising from faith in Him. His care is the evidence of his presence. He stated that the greatest gift God has given His children is His Presence. He is our present help in times of trouble.

DIVINE HELP IS THEREFORE PREMISED ON THE FOLLOWING ASSURANCES:

1. Fear not – Isa. 41:10.
God is still in control.

2. Divine Presence – I am with you. – Vs 10

3. Divine Courage: His hand is coming for us. We need not be discouraged.

4. Divine Strength – The strength of the Lord will be our portion.

5. Divine help – He assure us of his help. He says, “I will help you”.

6. Divine Support – I will support you with my right hand of righteousness.

7. I will fight your battles Vs 12.

The primate prayed for the people of Ogbaru and called on everyone to strengthen their faith in God.

Glory be to God.
